What should we wear for a family photo session? The most common question, I am always asked by clients.
Selecting outfits can be a daunting task, but it does not have to be.
Keep it simple
Avoid busy or big patterns. We want you to the main focus of your photo and do not want a competition with your outfit.
When in doubt, stick with solid, muted colors. Consider what is flattering with your skin color. Fit is as important as color. For the ladies, stick with clothing that accentuates your body, try to leave your favorite oversized tee at home. For the guys, a casual button up, plain t-shirt, or sweater is a good option.
Say no to characters
Your little one may love their Mickey Mouse shirt but you may want to skip it for the family photo session.Patterns, characters on shirts can be distracting.
Be comfortable and confident
We want you to be relaxed, comfortable becasue it matters the most. A family photo session should be a relaxed and happy event. Wearing comfortable clothes will help you to ease into the shoot.
Look at your home interiors
You may be hanging these photos in your house you want to make sure the colors of your clothes go with the color scheme of your home.
These photos will be hanging on your walls and treasured for years to come. By choosing simple, classic clothes you will help give your images a timeless feel.
Still stumped coordinating your outfits, here are more tips:
If you are going for a family photo session in fall
- Layer it up! Layers are helpful in creating visual interest and keeping you warm and cozy during an outside photo session playing with leaves in fall.
- Develop a clothing scheme around two main colors or shades.
- Accessories! burlap suspenders or a flowery headband for kids will make them appear cute.
